Vine Might Make a Comeback and the World is Ready For It
The popular social media app was shut down in 2016, but co-founder Dom Hofmann hinted on Twitter that a follow-up app may be launching sometime in the near future.Vine was a social media platform that let users post six-second videos. The app gave birth to so many important moments, memes, inside jokes, and stories that users from all over the world captured. Whether it be scripted comedy skits or candid moments that someone was blessed to capture on camera, Vine gave a 6-second spotlight to the new generation of comedy and they did not disappoint. The social media platform was owned by Twitter before it was shut down last year. But on Dec. 6, co-founder Dom Hofmann tweeted this cryptic image which sent the Twitterverse into a frenzy: The image appeared a few days after Hofmann tweeted about his efforts in creating a follow-up app to the currently defunct Vine. He decided to create a follow-up after receiving a significant amount of “tweets, dms, etc” from the Twitter community expressing resentment about the app's shutdown. Well hopefully our dreams have come true. “V2”, as Hofmann called it, is as mysterious as it is exciting. We're still pretty salty about the first shut-down, but who isn't excited about Vine's resurgence Although details are scarce, hopefully V2 is reminiscient of the app we all know and love. Come back for more updates and details, or check out Hofmann's twitter for future V2 announcements. Photo by @domhof and found on Twitter

Snapchat's Latest Update Changes Everything
Snapchat is separating the social from the media with their latest round of updates. The new Snapchat is an attempt to personalize the app by separating your friends’ content from content produced by professional publishers and creators. The company released a statement on Nov. 29 with all the details about the app’s upcoming changes and the intentions behind revamping the Snapchat we all know and love. Founder and CEO, Evan Spiegel, explained the changes via a video that accompanied the statement.Spiegel admits that the company receives complaints about how the app mixes content from friends with content from various media publishers on the app. “Friends are relationships, not content,” says Spiegel, agreeing with the criticism that the social networking app receives. To respond to those complaints, Snapchat created this new update to refocus the app’s layout to prioritize your friends’ stories.Previously, the app’s home screen opened your smartphone’s camera, the left page contained the conversations between you and your friends, and the right page held all the stories from both your friends and various media outlets. The new Snapchat, however, will place all your friends’ stories on the left page and all media content solely on the right page. But wait, there’s more! The Friends page will feature a “Best Friends” algorithm that will prioritize the friends you chat with the most. The Discover page will also be personalized over time. Your subscriptions will be placed at the top, followed by the content that the algorithm thinks you’ll appreciate. The new Snapchat is all about you. Whether you're an avid user or not, this new update personalizes the app for a Snapchat experience that is unique to everyone's personal preferences. The update will be available to download from the app store in the upcoming days. Get to snapping! Photos by TechCrunch and TechSpot
'My Tamagotchi Forever' App is Coming in 2018
Kristen De Vera90s kids will definitely remember Tamagotchis, those virtual pets that lived in a small egg-shaped toy. This year marks the 20th anniversary of Tamagotchis after its US release in 1997, and they became one of the most popular toys of the 90s and 2000s. To celebrate its anniversary, Bandai Namco recently released a smaller version of the Tamagotchi and created a mobile app version of the toy which will be released some time in 2018. The ‘My Tamagotchi Forever’ app is like a modernized version of the Tamagotchi toy. You’ll reunite with all of your favorite characters but they won’t look like their typical black and white, pixelated forms. Everything is vibrant and colorful. The characters aren’t 2D anymore but in 3D form that makes them cuter than before. In the app you can still interact the same way as you do with your pets on the classic Tamagotchi. You can give your pet a bath, feed them and put them to bed. What’s great is that there’s an arcade where you can play games when you don’t feel like playing with your pet and you can even make new friends while you explore Tamatown.Bandai Namco is even giving fans the chance to create their own Tamagotchi character. All you have to do is register on their website and they’ll randomly pick a fan. The fan will then work with Bandai to create their character which will be added to the app for everyone to play with.I got my own Tamagotchi in 2005 when they released Version 2 and it quickly became my favorite toy. I’m excited for the release of ‘My Tamagotchi Forever’ so I can relive my childhood! The official release of ‘My Tamagotchi Forever’ will come in 2018, so keep an eye out!Photos by MMO Culture and My Tamagotchi Forever
There is a Website that Helps You Draft an Apology
Timothy CastroGame designer Elizabeth Sampat has now made apologizing easier to do with her latest project. “Am I Part of the Problem?” is a judgment free website that helps both victims and wrongdoers understand their emotions and their situation. It can even help you draft the perfect apology. When entering the site, you’ll be greeted by a brief introduction statement clarifying that the information you provide will never be “recorded and will never be shared.” The site also claims that is it not an exercise of forgiveness or empathy, but rather a process of understanding. To begin the process, simply respond to the program’s questions by clicking on various response options. The interaction is based on how you choose to respond and how honest you choose to be. The program responds objectively, guiding the user throughout the process so that they can decide how to move forward once the interaction is over. The website breaks down all the aspects of the situation, starting with “intent,” for example. The site defines “intent” and explains its importance, and the user must consider if they were aware of their intentions or not. If yes, they must then choose from a series of “intents” and the entire interaction begins.I tested the website for myself, and at first I thought the idea of an interactive apology drafter was hilarious. What I actually came to find was a website that we never knew we needed. It’s easy to use and easy to look at. There are no ads or graphics to distract you from the process. The program is also very direct. It tells you what you need to hear, and the options you have moving forward. Either you hurt someone or you didn’t, but your actions had impacts. So what are you going to do about it? This is a question that “Am I Part of the Problem?” was designed to help you answer. The site reassures that you aren't a bad person for making a wrong choice. The point is: it's not all about you. "Am I Part of the Problem?" simply asks you to consider how others feel in comparison to how you feel. In the end, Sampat leaves us with messages of encouragement, urging that apologies are not a sign of weakness, but a necessary act that will help everyone involved heal properly. Sampat dispels the negative stigma that revolves around apologizing and her website makes it easier for all parties involved to understand how they feel and how to make amends. Next time you’re having trouble saying sorry, visit “Am I Part of the Problem?” for guidance and advice.
Say Goodbye to Lines at Amazon Go Grocery Store
Say goodbye to long lines, cashiers and cash. Amazon created a “Just Walk Out Shopping experience” with their new Amazon Go grocery store where customers can just walk in and out without having to wait in line to pay.Amazon Go looks a lot like an ordinary grocery store with goods like milk, fruits and snacks but you won’t see any lines or cashiers here. Amazon wants their customers to have an ordinary shopping experience while making the store completely checkout-free.At the entrance, you just have to open the Amazon Go app on your phone, scan it and shop. Cameras and sensors are placed all around the store so that movements can be tracked to detect what you take from the shelves and place in your cart. This way, Amazon can accurately charge you.Once you’ve picked up everything that you need, you simply go straight to the exit and leave. No need to take out your wallet and wait in line. When you leave the store, your Amazon account will be automatically charged. This unconventional grocery store may not be an ideal place for those who aren’t tech-savvy or for those who aren’t open to change. But if Amazon Go becomes a success, other retailers may decide to follow their footsteps and checkout-free stores may become the future of retail. Unfortunately, the need for cashiers would go away, but at least eliminating the time spent waiting in line can help create a shopping experience that’s faster and more efficient.Amazon Go is located in Seattle and is only open to Amazon employees at the moment, but keep an eye out for the official opening of Amazon Go stores in the future!
